Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 is intended to promote a culture of openness and accountability amongst public authorities by providing people with rights of access to the information held by them. It is expected that these rights will facilitate better public understanding of how public authorities carry out their duties, why they make the decisions they do and how they spend public money. Universities & Colleges fall within the definition of public authority. The Act is enforced by the Information Commissioner, who oversees both Freedom of Information and Data Protection legislation. You can obtain more information about the Freedom of Information Act 2000 from the Information Commissioner's Office. The Act establishes certain rights for the public and places responsibilities on the College associated with those rights. One of these responsibilities is to maintain a publication scheme , which will act as a guide to the information the University routinely publishes about itself. From the 1st January 2005 you will have the right to request any recorded information held by the College in addition to information published within the scheme. These requests will need to be made in writing.
